Creating Nuno Felted Silk Scarves will be the subject for the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s first 2015 Artist Series Workshop. The class will be taught by artist Martha Lumia on Sat., Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Room in the Idyllwild Library. There are just eight spaces available.

About the Artist:
Martha Lumia is a “fiber” artist who has explored a variety of mediums from sewing and quilting to knitting and crochet, mixed media, and papermaking. She learned the process of wet felting during one of her visits to San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. The process requires hand agitating wool fibers into a silk material, which creates a beautifully textured lightweight and durable fabric. (Nuno is Japanese for cloth.)

The workshop is $75 per person and includes materials and lunch (vegan options are available). Participants should bring three old bath towels, a bucket or a deep container that can hold water, as well as colored strands of yarn that can be used as embellishments.

Space is limited to eight participants, and the deadline to register is February 15
