We are putting a twist on our traditional 3-day art show!

  • Twist #1 is that this art show will run for 1-1/2 months!
  • Twist #2 is that this art show will be open during the middle of the holiday season which should equate to sales for our artists.
  • Twist #3 is that this art show will be a miniature show that is perfect for the holiday gift giving season.

This is an unique show and we look forward to seeing what our artist members submit.  The show concept is to encourage our artists to go outside their normal comfort zone in regards to size, promote art to the holiday shoppers visiting Idyllwild, and give our artists another venue for selling their artwork.

Here is how it works.

Gallery Location:  Mimi Lamp, artist and owner of Higher Grounds Gallery, has offered her space to exclusively showcase AAI Artist Members.  With her centrally located gallery space that is close to the tree lighting ceremony and retail shopping district, it is perfect for holiday shoppers and perfect for our artists.

Artist Eligibility:  Open to AAI Artist Members only whose membership fee is paid in full.  To participate you must register online.  No walk-ins will be accepted.  Artists who want to participate, but am not sure what they will be submitting, may still register before the deadline.  Deadline to register is November 1st.

# of Pieces:  We will accept a maximum of 50 artists or a maximum of 80 pieces of artwork.  Artists who donated a piece to the 2016 Eye of the Artist may enter two pieces.  All other AAI Artists may enter one piece.  If we don't get enough artists, we will increase the number of pieces each registered artist may submit.

Theme:  There is no specific theme and this is not a judged show, although images must be appropriate for public viewing because children will be allowed to view artwork.

Size Limitations for 2-D Pieces:  Images may not exceed 25 square inches or 5" x 5".  Frames may not exceed 64 square inches or 8" x 8".  Gallery wrapped without frame is acceptable, as long as the canvas sides are painted and the image size limitation is maintained. All artwork MUST be wired for hanging OR include a stand.

Size Limitation for 3-D Pieces:  Maximum size for sculptures is 8" x 8" x 8" and, if the piece has a base, the base must be firmly attached.

Mediums:  All entries must be originals.  No giclees.  With exception of wearable art, our mini show will be open to all mediums.  Wearable art will be featured in another 1-1/2 month show that we are working on.

Hanging:  There is no hanging fee.  To offset site rental fee, there will be a 30% commission on all sales with the option of lowering this to 25% by providing more gallery coverage.  See next bullet point.  (Note:  A W-9 needs to be on file for all artists.  If artist didn't previously submit a W-9, click here to print a copy.)

Gallery Assistance:  Because this is the longest show we have ever held, all participating artists are asked to fill two 10am-5pm shifts during the 1-1/2 month show.  The show opens on Friday, November 18th. We will be open the week  before Thanksgiving and then every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through January 1st.  There will be two artists per shift.  Artists who volunteer for four shifts will have their commission fee lowered to 25% versus 30%. Selection of shifts happens during the registration process. If a shift is not filled, the gallery will be closed during that shift.

Working Artists (optional):  While in the gallery, artists are encouraged to work on a piece of artwork.  This is optional, but is a great way to promote your own artwork.

Sales:  All artwork must be for sale.  Sold artwork may be replaced with a piece of similar size or smaller. Sales will be processed through the AAI with applicable taxes.  Artists who sell artwork will be paid within 3 weeks of end of show minus applicable commissions.

Liability Waiver: Click here for the liability waiver.
